Governor Wesley remains committed to SDP, confirms leadership

Milne Bay Governor Gordon Wesley is still deputy leader of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), General Secretary Gabriel Kotona has confirmed.

Mr Kotona clarified recent speculations surrounding a letter dated 15th August 2025, which suggested that Governor Wesley had resigned from the party.

Speaking from Alotau, Mr. Kotona confirmed that the governor remained an integral member of the SDP and was fully committed to its vision and objectives, especially in Milne Bay.

“I am here with our Deputy Party Leader and Milne Bay Governor Hon Gordon Wesley and Hon Ricky Morris. This is to confirm that the Governor has not resigned and continues to be a key pillar of our party,” Mr Kotona said.

He added that plans were underway to formally establish a SDP branch in the province through the appointment of official representatives to enhance grassroots mobilization and support ahead of the 2027 National General Elections.

“The Governor has reaffirmed his dedication to working with the party in delivering development and political stability in Milne Bay,” Mr Kotona said
