Port Moresby General Hospital staff celebrate World Patient Safety Day today.

Chief Executive Officer Dr Paki Molumi reminded everyone that on the 17th of September, every year they will celebrate World Patient Day.

“This will be our annual event program on the 17th of September each year, and I expect that each division will be given key performance indicators in patient safety, which will demonstrate to the rest of the world that we are serious about patient safety.

“Let us honour the past, celebrate the present, and boldly see the future,” Dr Molumi said.

He added that the next 50 years will be defined not just by infrastructure, but by innovation, compassion and safety.

“To partners, donors, staff and patients, thank you for being part of this journey.

“Let us work together to create a future where every life matters and every patient is safe,” Dr Molumi said.

National Department of Health Acting Secretary Ken Wai said the World Patient Safety Day would be celebrated annually. “I want to make sure this is calendared in our health governance calendar, so that annually we think of our patients’ safety and celebrate it as an annual event,” Mr Wai said.
