Papua New Guinea Basketball Men’s team edged out New Caledonia 77–74 in a nail-biting Day 3 clash at the 2025 FIBA Melanesian Cup in Honiara.

Held at the Honiara Multipurpose Hall, the match showcased the growing intensity of the regional rivalry between the two Pacific nations.

PNG’s victory was anchored by a standout performance from forward Mose Lune, who recorded 21 points, 12 rebounds, and 23 efficiency points, dominating both ends of the court and securing a crucial defensive rebound in the final seconds to seal the win.

The win builds on Papua New Guinea’s strong regional legacy, having defeated New Caledonia in the semifinals of the 2022 Melanesian Cup before claiming the championship.
