The Local Level Government Managers of Kikori electorate have been urged by Kikori MP Soroi Marepo Eoe, to guide six newly elected presidents to deliver services effectively.
Speaking in Port Moresby during their swearing-in, Mr Eoe, who is also the Minister for Provincial and Local Level Government Affairs, emphasized the need for guidance and best advice from LLG managers.
“I want to appeal to our LLG managers: work with your presidents, guide them, and give them the best advice. Money is limited, but K130,000 will be allocated to each LLG president next year. Use it wisely to make changes in your community,” he said.
The newly elected presidents are:
1. Charles Maiu (East Ihu LLG)
2. Miae Peke (West Ihu LLG)
3. Avae Avo’o (Baimuru LLG)
4. Moris Taudevin (East Kikori LLG)
5. John Kaimau Kimave (Kikori Urban)
6. Silas Sarea (Kikori Urban)
Minister Eoe, also stressed accountability and wise use of funds, citing Section 119 of the law allowing investigation into provincial government spending.
“We need to improve performances with government funds. The National Development Index measures us by what we do with these funds,” he warned.
Each ward member will get K30,000 to improve their areas, part of reforms pushing for five-year development plans and accountability.
“So much money is disappearing; I won’t hesitate to investigate,” Minister Eoe added.
“The reforms that we are making are very important; there should be accountability as well. So far, there is little accountability.”
