Australia is proud to support the opening of the Callan National Services Unit (CSNU) new Health Hearing Club.
The Hearing Health Club is a community-focused hearing service designed to make ear and hearing care accessible, affordable, and sustainable.
Callan National Services Unit, Stakeholder Engagement Lead, Ms. Christine Sumbuk said, “Through the Health Hearing Club we provide a full range of services including hearing screening, comprehensive diagnostic assessments, custom-made ear molds, hearing aid fittings, follow-up care, and ongoing maintenance.”
“We also support clients through their hearing rehabilitation journey- from learning to use their hearing aids confidently, to communication strategies, ongoing adjustments, and regular check-ins to ensure they are progressing well.”
“Our membership model is designed to cover this entire rehabilitation pathway, ensuring clients receive continuous support rather than one-off appointments.
Our aim is to ensure that every person has access to high-quality, long-term hearing care, regardless of background or financial capacity.”
The new Health Hearing Club was launched at CSNU Head Office in front of supporters and stakeholders, including representatives from the Australian High Commission, and other partners of CSNU.
Guests were given a guided tour of the new space followed by powerful testimony from a current Health Hearing Club member who shared how accessible and reliable hearing services have transformed their daily life.
Australian Volunteer, Audiology Program Mentor, Rainbow Apostol, who has been volunteering with CSNU since the start of 2025, was pleased to see such a significant number of partners support the event saying, “their presence reflects a shared commitment to strengthening hearing health services and improving inclusion across Papua New Guinea.”
Through partnerships with Australia and through Australian volunteers such as Rainbow, the Australian Government is committed to supporting accessible and reliable health services in PNG.
The Australian Volunteers Program is an Australian Government-funded initiative that supports partner organizations in PNG and across the Pacific, Asia and Africa to achieve locally led change.
