Chief Executive Officers of Provincial Health Authorities will be sacked if they do not perform their duties to achieve desired results, Health Minister Elias Kapavore has warned.

“We need competent CEOs and board members for the PHAs. If your CEOs are not performing, you should fire them,” he said.

“Give them notice and tell them to leave. No one is indispensable, and no position is our birthright.”

Minister Kapavore said the National Budget for Health had increased by 15.8 per cent from last year with a record allocation of more than K3 billion in 2026.

“For the first time, the health sector has received over K3 billion,” he said. “To all the Provincial Health Authorities, the Marape-Rosso Government has committed K1.5 billion.”

Mr Kapavore noted that many hospitals were still rundown, as if they had not received any funding to operate.

“It is a serious concern to me, and we can do better than that. It’s not about money. It’s about managing incompetence, promoting transparency, ensuring accountability, and committing to improving efficiency,” Minister Kapavore said.
