
THE Chinese Ambassador to Papua New Guinea, Yang Xiaoguang, paid a courtesy visit to Deputy Prime Minister John Rosso last week, reaffirming the strong bilateral relationship between Papua New Guinea and the People’s Republic of China and exploring opportunities to further strengthen trade, investment and development cooperation.
During the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Rosso and the Ambassador Xiaoguang held constructive discussions on expanding economic engagement between the two countries, with a focus on trade, investment, infrastructure development, and mutually beneficial partnerships.
Rosso welcomed the visit and acknowledged China’s long-standing relationship with Papua New Guinea, noting the importance of continued dialogue in identifying new areas of cooperation that support PNG’s development priorities and economic growth.
“Papua New Guinea values its relationship with China and welcomes responsible investment that contributes to job creation, skills transfer, and sustainable development,” the Acting Prime Minister said.
The discussions highlighted opportunities for increased Chinese investment in key sectors of the PNG economy, including infrastructure, energy, manufacturing, agriculture, and downstream processing, while strengthening trade links that benefit both nations.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining open communication and cooperation based on mutual respect, shared interests, and long-term partnership.
The courtesy visit reflects the continued engagement between Papua New Guinea and China and the shared desire to deepen economic ties in support of development and prosperity for both countries.
