Moresby North East MP John Kaupa presented the land title for Portion 2464 in Bomana to the National Capital District Commission this week.
The presentation was witnessed by NCD Governor Powes Parkop, City Manager Ravu Frank, Assistant Commissioner of Police Benjamin Turi, community and association leaders, business leaders and most importantly the block holders.
Mr Kaupa acknowledged the support and the cooperation of the local leaders and their communities to get the title within a short period of time
“It is never an easy task to get the title within a short period of time. I’d like to appreciate the cooperation and effort of the community and association leaders within this areas. Your cooperation in actually putting together the documents that were needed had made things much easier for me to pushed forward and work along the lands department, city manager and the governor to present the land title to you,” Mr Kaupa said.
“I am also urging the block holders to not sell the blocks off unnecessarily without having to hold the land title. I will continue to work on converting the settlements within my electorate into suburbs and will need the cooperation of the leaders of those settlements.”
Governor Parkop said: “I congratulate the people of portion 2464 Vanuatu for getting your land title but I also would like to congratulate Mr. Kaupa for your outstanding job with a vision of converting settlements within your district into suburbs, I’ll be happy to assist you and in whatever way I can so that together we can create home for the people to live in without the fear of eviction. “
“With these changes coming into the communities, youths are encouraged to behave and respect the traditional land owners of the land as well as the law.”
The community leaders thanked Mr Kaupa and Governor Parkop for facilitating the process.
A recipient of the Vanuatu potion 2464 said: “Now that we have the title we will not be fearing eviction like every other settlement within the city and on behalf of the community and the leaders of the Vanuatu potion 2464. I thank Mr. Kaupa and the governor of NCD Mr. Parkop for successfully delivering the title.”
Mr Kaupa then presented the land title to City Manager Mr. Ravu Frank for proper physical planning and implementation.
