PNG Hekari Football Club is the only team in the OFC Pro-League that is yet to win a match since round one.

The team has lost two matches in round three, which sets their record at six losses and one draw.

Hekari began their OFC Pro-League circuit three match against the Solomon Kings FC in Melbourne on Sunday 22February, losing by 1-2. They also lost to Bula FC 1-2 on Wednesday 25February.

Hekari’s mid fielder Joseph Joe who scored the penalty goal for PNG Hekari on Sunday highlighted the team’s performance in their first match of the OFC Pro-League circuit three in Melbourne.

“First of all, I want to say thank you to the boys for the second half that we came stronger and made sure we scored one goal through penalty.

“When I scored the goal, I thought the boys would fight stronger and score more goals but unfortunately we did not get the win,” he said.

PNG Hekari FC’s defender Erick Joe after the loss to Bula FC highlighted the performance and noted several areas that needed improvement.

“Our performance was better. Every game we are taking one step more but the thing is that we need to take opportunity. We lost many opportunities. Strikers need to score goals. The defenders are doing good but we need to score goals,” he said.

Joe said in the next game Hekari need to put more work in the front, upgrading the striker’s performance and applying more pressure in the opponent’s goal area to create more opportunity to score goals.

Coach Jerry Allan had said before departing for Melbourne that the team was looking at registering their first win in circuit three as most mistakes in the previous two rounds were addressed during the training.

Hekari has two matches remaining where they will take Vanuatu United FC at the Home of Matildas at 2:30 pm Australian time on Saturday (28 February) and a postponed match from round one against Tahiti United on Tuesday third of Match at exactly 3pm (Australian time) to find their first win.
