Telikom Limited has officially welcomed 50 graduates into its 2026 Graduate Development Program (GDP), reinforcing its commitment to building a skilled, future-ready workforce to support Papua New Guinea’s digital transformation.
The program, a key initiative under Telikom’s Corporate Plan, is designed to develop young professionals into capable technical and business leaders while addressing critical skills gaps across the organisation.
Chief Executive Officer Amos Tepi, OBE, said the program is a strategic investment in both Telikom’s future and the nation’s development.
“This program is not just about employment—it is about building capability, strengthening our national workforce, and preparing future leaders who will drive Papua New Guinea forward in the digital age,” Mr. Tepi said.
From Learning to Real Impact
Mr. Tepi emphasised that the Graduate Development Program is built on practical, hands-on experience, enabling graduates to contribute directly to real operational challenges.
He highlighted examples of past graduates who have progressed into impactful roles within the organisation:
– A graduate engineer who advanced into a network leadership role after gaining field experience restoring connectivity in rural provinces.
– An IT graduate who helped develop a digital tool that improved customer complaint tracking and response times.
– A business graduate who strengthened financial discipline through improved cash flow monitoring and payment planning.
“These examples show that impact is driven by initiative, discipline, and a willingness to solve real problems—not just by seniority,” he said.
Merit-Based Selection
The 2026 intake followed a competitive and transparent recruitment process conducted in Port Moresby and Lae, with 88 candidates interviewed from leading tertiary institutions across Papua New Guinea.
From this process, 50 graduates were selected across key disciplines including Technical Engineering, IT and Innovation, and Business Management—ensuring alignment with Telikom’s operational and strategic priorities.
Supporting National Development
As a national telecommunications provider, Telikom plays a vital role in enabling connectivity, digital inclusion, and economic growth.
Mr. Tepi said the program directly supports the Government’s development agenda, including the Medium Term Development Plan IV (2023–2027), by strengthening local capability in critical sectors.
“By investing in our young people, we are not only strengthening Telikom—we are contributing to building a digitally connected and self-reliant Papua New Guinea,” he said.
Looking Ahead
Telikom acknowledged the continued support of its Board, Management, and shareholder Kumul Consolidated Holdings in developing national workforce capability.
The 2026 Graduate Development Program marks another important step in Telikom’s journey to build a resilient, innovative, and future-ready organisation.
