The Nawaeb District has taken a significant step in strengthening rural healthcare delivery, with Situm Health Centre becoming the first facility to receive vital medical supplies under the district’s Medicines Support Program.
Nawaeb Member of Parliament, Theo Pelgen, confirmed the rollout, stating that the initiative is designed to complement ongoing shortages and delays in medical supplies from the National Government.
“This support is not to replace national supply, but to ensure our rural health centres continue to function effectively while awaiting regular government shipments,” Hon. Pelgen said.
The initial consignment delivered to Situm Health Centre includes essential medical supplies such as:
• Antibiotics
• Antimalarial drugs
• Analgesics (pain relief medication)
• Anti-inflammatory medicines
• Blood supplements for antenatal mothers
Hon. Pelgen emphasized that the stocks are sufficient to support ongoing medical needs while bridging supply gaps.
Under the program’s implementation plan:
• Medical supplies will be ordered monthly
• Distribution and pickup will occur weekly across the district’s four health centres
The rollout sequence will follow this order:
1. Situm Health Centre
2. Boac Health Centre
3. Oligiduc Health Centre
4. Boana Health Centre
5. Torowa Health Centre
Situm Health Centre has been recognized for its proactive and disciplined approach. Staff have played a leading role in ensuring that systems for ordering and distribution are efficient and replicable across all Nawaeb health centres.
“The commitment shown by Situm staff sets the standard. Their coordination ensures that all health centres in Nawaeb can follow a smooth and consistent supply process,” Hon. Pelgen added.
This initiative reflects the Nawaeb District Development Authority’s commitment to improving frontline health services and ensuring that rural communities have consistent access to life-saving medicines.
