NCD Governor Powes Parkop, today met with the newly appointed Country Director of the Asian Development Bank, Mr. Takafumi Kadono, during a courtesy orientation meeting focused on strengthening partnership and exploring future urban development opportunities for the National Capital District.
The meeting, attended by officials from ADB and officers from the Governor’s Office, centered on potential collaboration in several priority sectors.
These include the city transport sector, urbanization and affordable housing, water and sanitation projects, and resilient urban infrastructure initiatives aimed at improving the living standards of residents in the city.
Governor Parkop warmly welcomed Mr. Kadono and acknowledged the long-standing partnership between ADB and Papua New Guinea, noting the Bank’s decades of support for national and community development projects.
He emphasized the importance of continued cooperation with development partners such as ADB to address growing urban challenges and support sustainable development within the city.
Discussions also highlighted the importance of coordinated urban planning, sustainable infrastructure investment, and strengthening essential services to meet the needs of Port Moresby’s growing population and future development aspirations.
The meeting concluded on a positive note, with both sides reaffirming their commitment to maintaining strong relations and continuing dialogue on priority urban development projects in the National Capital District.
