The Conservation and Environment Protection Authority (CEPA) has formally handed over the amended Upstream Level 3 (L3) Environmental Permit EP L3(1030) to TotalEnergies EP PNG Limited for the Papua LNG Project, marking a major step forward in the project’s development.

The updated permit builds on the 2019 Environmental Impact Statement and its 2024 Addendum, incorporating significant design improvements aimed at reducing environmental impact while optimizing technical solutions. Key changes include the removal of the CALM buoy at Caution Bay, adjustments to condensate transport and offloading, and optimized shore-crossing routes. These modifications will shorten the offshore condensate pipeline, reduce construction complexity, and minimize risks to sensitive mangrove and coral ecosystems.

The handover ceremony took place at CEPA headquarters in Waigani, where Mr. Michael Wau, CEPA’s Non-Renewable Resource Division Director, presented the amended permit to Mrs. Claire Viaud, HSSE Director of TotalEnergies EP PNG.

TotalEnergies expressed appreciation for CEPA’s thorough review and reaffirmed its commitment to developing the Papua LNG Project in line with the highest environmental standards. The milestone underscores a shared ambition to deliver a world-class project that balances industrial performance, regulatory compliance, and environmental protection.
