HEALTH officials and partners have successfully launched the Western Province Tuberculosis Surveillance Dashboard – a tool designed to transform TB monitoring and response in the province.

The dashboard was introduced through targeted training sessions for provincial health officers and key partners, focused on strengthening health worker skills on how to use the dashboard, interpretation of key TB indicators, and on how to use information generated from the system to improve TB control in Western Province.

Western Provincial Health Authority, Director Public Health, Mr Cletus Bonn, is optimistic that this training will help progress decision making in a timely manner.

“By providing real‑time, accessible information, it improves efficiency in monitoring trends, and supporting timely decision‑making, allowing our teams to respond more quickly and effectively to TB across the province,” Mr Bonn said.

Strengthening the use of data enhances decision-making at all levels from program, planning, and supervision to policy formulation.

Officials can now identify service gaps, monitor emerging risks like multi-drug-resistant TB(MDR-TB), and support timely program adjustments.

Over time, the dashboard is expected to improve data quality, increase accountability, and provide the evidence needed to prioritise TB services.

Australia remains committed to providing practical support to Papua New Guinea to address tuberculosis, with targeted assistance in Western Province, strengthening the local health workforce and frontline services.
