NAMBAWAN Super Limited (NSL) has welcomed Prime Minister James Marape’s call to support farmers with access to long-term retirement savings in a speech delivered at the recent inauguration of the newly renovated Queen Emma Chocolate factory, owned by Paradise Foods Limited (PFL).
Prime Minister Marape encouraged farmers to not only work and produce but also save for their future, highlighting the importance of giving the same opportunity to build retirement savings as teachers, nurse, police officers and other salaried workers.
NSL Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Lachlan Baird, said Papua New Guineans working in the agricultural and informal sectors already have the opportunity to save for retirement through superannuation.
Farmers are an important part of PNG’s economy, and they also have the opportunity through NSL to save for their future while they are earning an income today.
“At NSL, we strongly believe that superannuation should be for everyone, regardless of whether they work in the formal or informal sectors. Many Papua New Guineans may not realise that farmers, self-employed workers, small business owners and others without compulsory superannuation through an employer can voluntarily choose to have a financial safety net for their retirement.”
“Through our Choice Super product, that opportunity is already available. We want more Papua New Guineans to know about it and understand that they don’t have to miss out on superannuation, and can enjoy a secure financial future.”
Mr. Baird made the comments following the official opening of the newly renovated Queen Emma Chocolate factory, owned by Paradise Foods Limited (PFL).
The upgraded factory is expected to strengthen local cocoa processing and create greater opportunities for cocoa farmers by providing a stronger market for locally grown cocoa.
“It is encouraging to see the Government and the European Union, through the EU-STREIT PNG Programme, support PFL and Queen Emma Chocolate Company in strengthening local cocoa processing while simultaneously creating opportunities for our cocoa
farmers,”
“For a cocoa farmer, connection is simple. You grow and supply your cocoa, supporting local processing, businesses and jobs. At the same time, you can choose to save part of what you earn towards your retirement through Choice Super. Your savings are invested by NSL, giving you the opportunity to benefit from the long-term compound growth through a diversified investment portfolio.”
“PFL and the Queen Emma Chocolate factory are a prime example of how NSL’s investments in PNG, creates jobs and opportunities for local businesses, people and communities.”
“This extends beyond direct employment at PFL and the Queen Emma Chocolate factory. It also creates opportunities for farmers to sell and supply their products directly to a local company, supporting livelihoods and strengthening local value chains.”
NSL is PNG’s largest, longest-serving and most trusted superannuation fund, with more than 245,000 Members and K13billion in Funds Under Management.
Mr. Baird reiterated that Nambawan Super is a Fund for everyone across all sectors, including public and private sector workers, small business owners, self-employed people and those working in informal and agricultural sectors.
