TWENTY-THREE Sergeants (All Class) and Constables (All Class) from the Simbu Provincial Police Command are undergoing training for Sergeants and Non-Commissioned Officers (NCOs) to strengthen their understanding of police administration and improve their ability to uphold accountability and responsibility within their respective commands.

The selected officers are performing supervisory roles within the command attending a course known as the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary’s (RPNGC) Sergeants/NCOs.

Simbu Provincial Police Commander (PPC), Detective Superintendent Mazuc Rubiang, said the six weeks training will take four (4) weeks on theory at the Provincial Training Cell at Kundiawa in Simbu whilst two (2) weeks will be on the Job Training (OJT) and Assessment.

PPC Rubiang said the training was built on three pillars especially on Police Administration, Accountability & Responsibility, and On the Job Training.

“This course is not simply a course, but it is a strategic investment in building a strong and reliable Middle management Structure, which remains the backbone of our organisation,” PPR Rubiang said.

“Sergeants are the linchpin of the constabulary. They connect command directives with the frontline execution.”

PPC Rubiang noted that their roles require them to translate Policy into Action, maintaining discipline, guiding junior officers and ensures that all operations are carried out lawfully, ethically and effectively.

“This training will benefit members by strengthening their understanding of police administration, improve their ability to uphold accountability and responsibility and develop practical skills through the On-Job Training,” PPC Rubiang said.

PPC Rubiang said after this training, they expect participants to apply the knowledge, and the skills gain from this training by executing strong leadership role and supervision with accountability and responsibility and ensure discipline is enforced where necessary under their incumbent control as Middle managers.

He added that they intend to continue this training to be rolled out to all their Sergeants and NCOs, but it all depends on the funding.
