Government commits K50,000 towards PNG Kickboxing Federation

THE Government of Papua New Guinea has made a commitment of K50 000 towards the PNG Kickboxing Federation at the Taurama Aquatics Centre in Port Moresby on Sunday 28th of June 2026.

Prime Minster James Marape and Governor for New Ireland province Byron Chan made their appearance at the recently hosted Last Man Standing quarterfinals in Port Moresby and were amazed of how Kickboxing talents have grown over the years.

Prime Minister Marape left early due to a busy schedule, while New Ireland Governor Byron Chan represented the Prime Minister and the Government of Papua New Guinea during the speech.

“I am honored to represent the Prime Minister and the Government of the day in making a commitment of K50,000 towards the sport,” he said.

He said the governments focus on youth development through sports and PNG Kickboxing Federation has shown that they can support the youths of this country and instill discipline in them.    

Governor Chan encouraged the fighters to maintain good sportsmanship that they have shown in the ring and apply that in their real life, which can transform their livelihoods.  

He shared his story during his young days when he fought with dignity and pride while upholding discipline and respect.

Chan gave a word of gratitude to every fighters from respective provinces who participated in the one-day event acknowledged PNG Kickboxing federation President Stanley Nandex for his commitment in transforming the federation.

PNG Kickboxing Federation president, Stanley Nandex thanked Governor Chan for his time and extended his appreciation to the government under the leadership of Prime Minister James Marape for the funding support.

“People are willing to come and support and it is our duty to spend the money for its intended purposes while keeping checks and balanced intact,” he said.

Nandex said that with National Gaming Control Board, PNG Government and several organization backing the federation, PNG Kickboxing Federation is now looking at sponsoring more of its fighters to international tournaments and at the same time nurture the emerging talents in the country.

Nandex also encouraged the fighters to be disciplined and keep mastering their skills that would take them places.

Meanwhile, for the first time all the fighters who took part in the Last Man Standing event walked away with cash prizes together with the medals and trophies, making it one of the memorable event and a new beginning for the PNG Kickboxing Federation.
