THE National Capital District Provincial Health Authority (NCDPHA) has commended Brian Bell Chemical Division for delivering an Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) training session at Gerehu General Hospital (GGH), describing the initiative as a valuable step towards strengthening infection prevention standards across its health facilities.

The training, facilitated by Mr. Donwell Kodzwa and Ms. Jane Morea of Brian Bell Chemical Division, brought together senior nursing officers, hygiene staff, and cleaners.

Participants received practical training on the correct use of hospital-grade chemicals, proper dilution techniques, effective cleaning procedures, and internationally recognised colour-coding standards.

Dr. Fiona Kupe, a paediatrician at Gerehu General Hospital, said the training helped identify critical gaps in the hospital’s existing IPC practices.

“From this IPC presentation, we learned and identified significant gaps in our current IPC procedures at the hospital,” she said.

“This is a great step forward for us to be at par with other hospitals in NCD, such as PMGH, 2K, and Paradise, in terms of using the correct chemicals, proper dilution techniques, and standardized cleaning processes.”

Dr. Kupe also welcomed Brian Bell Chemical Division’s commitment to continue supporting the Authority through practical training.

“It was also great to hear Brian Bell Chemical Division express their willingness to conduct practical training sessions for all hygiene staff across NCDPHA.”

NCDPHA Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Robin Oge, said the training highlighted the importance of partnerships in strengthening healthcare services.

“We recognize the importance of strengthening infection prevention and control measures across all our facilities.

“This training demonstrates the value of partnerships in building staff capacity and ensuring our hospitals maintain safe, hygienic environments for patients and staff.

“NCDPHA management is committed to supporting collaborations that enhance service delivery and align our practices with national and international standards,” Dr. Oge said.

NCDPHA thanked Brian Bell Chemical Division and the leadership of Gerehu General Hospital for their commitment to improving infection prevention and control standards and creating safer healthcare environments for patients, staff, and visitors.
