Prime Minister James Marape has extended warm congratulations to President Donald J. Trump, the Government and the American people as they celebrate the 250th Anniversary of the Independence of the United States of America today.

Prime Minister Marape said the occasion marked a historic milestone not only for the United States but also for nations around the world that continue to value freedom, democracy, opportunity and national selfdetermination.

“On behalf of the Government and people of Papua New Guinea, I extend our warmest congratulations to President Trump and the American people on this very special occasion,” Prime Minister Marape said.

“For 250 years, the United States has stood as one of the world’s leading democracies, making significant contributions to global peace, security, innovation and economic development. Its remarkable journey continues to inspire nations, including Papua New Guinea, as we pursue our own aspirations for growth and prosperity.”

Prime Minister Marape said Papua New Guinea deeply values its longstanding friendship with the United States, built on shared democratic values, mutual respect and a common commitment to peace, security and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region.

“Our friendship has deep historical roots dating back to the Second World War, when the people of Papua New Guinea and the United States stood together during one of history’s defining moments. Today, that relationship continues to grow through cooperation in defence, trade and investment, health, education, energy, disaster response and people-to-people exchanges.”

Prime Minister Marape noted that as Papua New Guinea celebrates its own 50th anniversary of Independence this year, it also recognises the importance of enduring international partnerships that respect sovereignty, promote sustainable development and create opportunities for future generations.

“The United States has been an important friend and development partner to Papua New Guinea, and we look forward to further strengthening our bilateral relationship in the years ahead for the mutual benefit of our two nations.”

Prime Minister Marape wished the United States continued peace, prosperity and success as it commemorates this historic milestone.

“On this special day, I convey the best wishes of the people of Papua New Guinea to the American people. May God continue to bless the United States of America and may the friendship between our two countries continue to flourish for generations to come,” he said.
