THE Dei District Development Authority (DDA) has reaffirmed its commitment to education with a K100,000 school fee subsidy to the UPNG Dei District Student Association.
Representatives from the office of Dei Open MP Hon. Desmond Kipa presented the cheque to students at the UPNG campus on Monday (27/07/26).
This is part of a K1.3 million allocation by MP Kipa to assist Dei students in tertiary institutions across the country. The funding aims to relieve parents and guardians of financial burdens and invest in the human resource of the district.
First Secretary to the MP, Mr. Sedrick Ranpi, presented the cheque and said the subsidy complements the K2,000 assistance announced by the Western Highlands Provincial Government.
“Investing in human resources is important because it will benefit the district and the province of Western Highlands as a whole,” Mr. Ranpi said.
He said this is the first time during Hon. Kipa’s tenure that the Dei DDA has committed direct school fee subsidies to students, and the program will continue for as long as he remains in office.
“This is the first of its kind where a member of the district is investing in students,” Mr. Ranpi said.
He announced that each UPNG Dei student will receive K1,000 from the K100,000 committed to the association.
Mr. Ranpi urged students to set a good benchmark and academic record for their siblings to follow and to enroll in government-recognized institutions such as UPNG to help develop the human resource of Dei District.
UPNG Dei District Student Association Female Vice President, Miss Cody Konga Kunjil, thanked the office of Hon. Kipa for the support.
“I thank the office of the MP, Hon. Desmond Kipa for investing in education and believing in the human resource of Dei District,” Miss Kunjil said.
“We also thank the office of the MP for his contribution and the developments that are taking place within the district. We hope for him to be elected back into parliament so that he can continue to support students and develop the district.”
