THE National Volunteer Service (NVS) Team has recently concluded a high-level courtesy meeting with the Jiwaka Provincial Administration and the Provincial Administrator in Minj last Thursday (30/07/26).
The meeting marks a significant step forward in strengthening partnerships between NVS and Jiwaka to enhance service delivery and community development across the province.
Welcoming the NVS team, the Jiwaka Provincial Administrator, Mr. Rick Kogen, expressed his appreciation for the work of NVS and acknowledged the vital role volunteers play in reaching underserved communities.
“Volunteerism is a powerful tool to reach the unreachable. By working together, we can bridge service delivery gaps and empower our communities to take ownership of development,” he said.
During the discussions, both parties explored opportunities for collaboration in key priority areas including health, education, agriculture, and rural development.
A major outcome of the meeting was the proposal to formalize the partnership through a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA).
Mr. Kogen announced that JPG intends to sign the MOA with NVS, once the Governor returns to the province.
The proposed MOA will provide a framework for the deployment of skilled national volunteers at the ward level across all districts of Jiwaka Province.
Speaking on behalf of NVS, the Acting Executive Director Mr Jerry David thanked the Provincial Administrator and his warm reception and strong commitment to the volunteer movement.
He reaffirmed NVS’s mandate to recruit, train and place skilled volunteers to support the Government’s service delivery and community projects nationwide.
“NVS is committed to supporting the Jiwaka Provincial Administration in achieving its development goals,” said Mr Jerry David, Acting Executive Director, NVS.
“Our volunteers are ready to serve in health, schools, agricultural projects, and community programs to bring real change at the community level.”
The meeting also discussed logistical arrangements, volunteer welfare, and monitoring mechanisms to ensure effective deployment and impact reporting.
This engagement is part of NVS’s ongoing outreach to strengthen partnerships and expand volunteer deployment across the Highlands Region. NVS has already established successful partnerships with several provinces and continues to receive growing interest from provincial governments and communities.
The National Volunteer Service is a State Agency under the Ministry of Defence that recruits, trains and places volunteers in remote areas throughout the country.
