JUSTICE Minister and Attorney General Pila Niningi has announced the appointment of two new judges, Peter Kuman and Kenneth Imako, following their unanimous recommendation by the Judicial and Legal Services Commission (JLSC).
Mr. Niningi said the appointments reflect the Commission’s commitment to selecting highly qualified and experienced legal professionals from across the country. Mr. Kuman is from Simbu, while Mr. Imako is from Bougainville.
He said the appointing authority selects judges and State law officers in accordance with the law, based on merit, qualifications and proven performance.
“The Commission is satisfied with these appointments and congratulates the newly appointed judges on taking up these important roles to serve the people of Papua New Guinea,” Mr. Niningi said.
Both judges have been appointed for a 10-year term.
The Minister also announced the appointment of nine new probationary magistrates, who will serve a 12-month probation before confirmation. They will be posted to district and provincial courthouses across the country.
“They are appointed on probation for 12 months. Once we are satisfied with their performance, they will be confirmed,” Mr. Niningi said.
Mr. Niningi also congratulated Helen Roalakona on her substantive appointment as Public Prosecutor for a six-year term after serving in an acting capacity.
“I want to congratulate her for her dedicated service to the legal profession and as a prosecutor,” he said.
The Minister acknowledged the Marape-Rosso Government for its continued funding and support of the Judiciary, Magisterial Services and State Law Offices to strengthen the delivery of justice throughout Papua New Guinea.
