Justin Holbrook has been rewarded for Newcastle’s dizzying run to their first grand final in 25 years with the Knights handing their coach a contract extension until the end of 2030.

The 50-year-old was already contracted for 2027 and 2028 but has had his deal boosted by a further two seasons.

Holbrook landed at the Knights 12 months ago off the back of their 2025 wooden spoon campaign.

But the former Gold Coast and St Helens coach quickly made an impact, guiding Newcastle to this year’s grand final where they suffered a 19-18 loss at the hands of the Sydney Roosters.

“Justin has done an incredible job since arriving at the start of this season,” said Knights football director Chris James.

“He has built an environment where our players are happy, they enjoy coming to work, and every single day they walk through the door wanting to get better.

“That culture is the foundation of everything this group achieved in reaching our first grand final in 25 years. Just as importantly, Justin has reconnected this team with our community.

“Securing Justin until 2030 means we can keep building on that connection, and we’re incredibly proud to have him leading our team.”
