THE Commissioner of Police David Manning has reaffirmed that all infrastructure investments projects delivered by the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary are ultimately about strengthening frontline policing and improving member welfare.
The Commissioner’s remarks were made at the official opening the newly refurbished Infrastructure Administration Office at Konedobu on Monday.
The Infrastructure Administration Office is the operational hub for planning, coordination and managing police infrastructure nationwide. The facility brings together project management, land administration, facilities management and infrastructure planning functions under one roof, creating a professional and sustainable framework for managing police assets nationwide.
“Better managed facilities mean better working conditions for our officers, improved operational readiness, and stronger service delivery to communities.
“The work undertaken here at the Infrastructure Administration office will ensure the RPNGC’s investments in police stations and housing are delivered more effectively, managed more responsibly and provide lasting benefits for the people of Papua New Guinea.” Commissioner Manning said.
“The co-location of key teams will improve communication, coordination and decision-making, ensuring infrastructure priorities are identified and delivered more efficiently.
The refurbishment was delivered in partnership with the PNG-Australia Policing Partnership (PNG-APP), and is one component of infrastructure uplift enabled through the Bilateral Security Agreement.
Australia Federal Police (AFP) Deputy Commissioner Lesa Giale commended the Constabulary’s investment in improved workplaces, and highlighted the tangible impact of recent investments by the RPNGC and PNG-APP:
“Since 2023, our partnership has delivered a substantial program of policing infrastructure aligned with RPNGC priorities.
“Recruit training capacity has more than doubled, new barracks and housing projects are underway across the country, and construction of the National Forensic Science Centre is progressing. These are practical investments in safer workplaces, operational readiness and policing services for communities,” Deputy Commissioner Gale said.
