OK Tedi Mining Limited (Ok Tedi) has celebrated the graduation of 36 participants from its Graduate Development Scheme (GDS), Preferred Area Development (PAD) and Competency Base Training programmes, marking another milestone in building PNG’s skilled workforce.

The graduates successfully completed structured development programs across several disciplines including engineering, environmental science, communications, accounting, health management and heavy equipment trades.

For nearly four decades, Ok Tedi has invested in developing Papua New Guinea’s workforce, equipping young professionals with the skills, experience and confidence needed to contribute meaningfully to the industry which in return contribute to national development.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony, General Manager People and Culture Kevin Russell highlighted the importance of investing in people as part of the company’s long-term sustainability and succession planning strategy.

“Our people remain our greatest asset. Through structured training, mentoring and development pathways, we are investing not only in the growth of individuals but also in the long-term sustainability of our business,” Mr Russell said.

“We are proud of what each graduate has achieved. Whether your journey continues within Ok Tedi or elsewhere, you leave with skills, experience and values that will contribute meaningfully to Papua New Guinea’s development.”

Acting Manager Training and Capability Development Morris Nandun said the programme continues to deliver positive outcomes for both graduates and the business.

“Of the 31 graduates and trainees recognised today, 24 have secured employment opportunities within the Ok Tedi business, while seven will pursue opportunities elsewhere,” Mr Nandun said.

Graduate representative Abbra Ntumy when speaking at the ceremony reflected on the journey undertaken by the graduating cohort and the opportunities created through the programme.

“The journey has not always been easy, but it has been worthwhile. Through mentorship, practical experience and guidance from colleagues, we have gained valuable skills and confidence that will support us throughout our careers,” Ms Ntumy said.

The graduation represents more than a personal milestone for the participants. It reflects Ok Tedi’s ongoing investment in Papua New Guinea’s human capital and its commitment to creating lasting value through education, skills development and employment opportunities for future generations.
