CENTRAL Province Governor Hon. Rufina Peter has called for fairness and equality in the country’s justice system, stressing that the law must apply equally to all citizens, regardless of their social status or position in society.

Governor Peter made the statement during a press conference today concerning the October 29 murder of two men from Mondo, Woitape Local-Level Government (LLG), Goilala District, at 15-Mile, Port Moresby.

The Governor and families of the victims have noted that six days have passed since the murder and no suspects have been arrested by the police as yet.

Mondo clan leader John Koga appealed to the police to arrest the murderers, stating that his people should not be chased around like animals and slaughtered in their own land.

He called for justice to be prevailed in the matter and questioned the law authorities on how Goilalas are treated.

He also expressed that when Goilalas got into trouble, they end up in jail but when other citizens cause harm to Goilalas, they are immune to the law.

“Do we have two sets of law in this country? One is for us, the Goilalas, the other one is for the rest of Papua New Guinea,” Mr. Koga questioned.

Governor Peter said that there is one law that serves all citizens in PNG.

“Justice must prevail at all times, regardless of your rank and status in society. Everyone must be treated equally. The law must serve all of us, there’s no two or three different laws. Its one law that serves every citizens of this country,” Governor Peter said.

She called for the murderers must be brought to justice by the appropriate authorities.

The victims’ families noted that the murder was done by Tari people over an alleged killing of cow at 15-mile.

Governor Peter has made the call for fair law for all citizens after contacting the police and getting no response, investigation and arresting of the perpetrators.
