Families of the victim meet with the Central Provincial Governor during a press conference to discuss concerns and seek justice.

FAMILIES of two Goilala men killed at 15 Mile on October 29 are calling on police to expedite investigations and arrest those responsible, saying justice has been delayed for too long.

The two men were allegedly attacked and killed following accusations that they were involved in the killing of cattle belonging to members of the Tari community.

However, family representatives maintain that the victims had no involvement in the alleged cattle killings and are demanding justice for their deaths.

Speaking at a press conference hosted by Central Governor Rufina Peter, clan leader John Koga said the families had exercised restraint and chosen to follow the law instead of retaliating, despite mounting anger within the community.

“We live in a civilised society where we have laws on the ground. We put everything into the hands of the law,” Mr Koga said.

He questioned why no arrests had been made days after the killings and called on police to immediately investigate the incident and bring the perpetrators before the courts.

Mr Koga also appealed to Hela leaders, including political and business leaders linked to the area, to meet with the victims’ families and help address their concerns.

Goilala District Council of Women President Margret Eve said the deaths had devastated families and left women questioning the safety of their communities.

“We demand justice. We ask for protection of our people,” Ms Eve said.

She said mothers had lost sons, children had lost fathers and families were now living in fear following the killings.

“We want peace, but peace must come with justice,” she said.

Ms Eve called on the Central Provincial Government, police and national leaders to ensure those responsible are held accountable and to provide support to the affected families.

Central Governor commended the families for remaining calm and allowing the legal process to take its course, saying justice must prevail at all times.
