Polye: I stood for justice and I forgive those that rigged the Kandep election

By LORRAINE WOHI

NEWLY elected Member for Kandep, Don Polye while giving his welcome speech in Parliament on Tuesday has described his victory as a sign of not giving up.

“It signifies the spirit of not giving up. It’s about not giving up on a stand for justice. It’s about not backing down, but steady in what is right. It is about good leadership and governance,” Mr Polye said.

He was recently declared by the Supreme court  as the newly MP elect for Kandep open after a four-year court battle against the former MP, Alfred Manase.

Mr Polye while giving his opening speech in Parliament said that the breach of laws of this country cannot be compromised nor make it become a norm in the country.

“We cannot step back down that our children will see that as a norm for the future,” he added.

Mr Polye also expressed his forgiveness to the former MP for Kandep, Alfred Manase and his party, the National Congress Party.

“I forgive those that rigged the election in Kandep. I will not blame anybody but by forgiving them for something that they did was not good.”

He further urged the government and the opposition under the leadership of Prime Minister James Marape to be working together.

He added that the same style of leadership must apply to all electorates in PNG.

Meanwhile, Mr Ploye has made a bold statement that the Papua New Guinea Electoral Commission is not in its proper state to run the national elections.

“I will tell you from my experience. We as district members have to be rig to come here because the system is not working,” he said.

Mr Polye was formally welcomed in Parliament by speaker Job Pomat and fellow members of Parliament on Tuesday, April 20.
