THE National Court will hand down its ruling on the leave application filed by the plaintiffs of the case involving University of Goroka Council and Higher Education Minister, Wesley Raminai next Tuesday.
Presiding Chief Justice Sir Gibbs Salika set the date following the hearing of the plaintiffs leave application at Waigani National Court today.
Lawyers representing Minister Raminai and the State opposed the leave application by the plaintiffs today.
The matter returns to court next Tuesday 11th May, 2021 at 9:30am for a ruling.
The ruling will determine whether the leave is granted, and if it does, the matter is expected to continue to hear the joinders applications.
Meanwhile, Sir Gibbs Salika said his earlier interim orders are still on foot till next week’s ruling.
His earlier interim orders are that Minister Raminai must not interfere with the administration of the University of Goroka (UOG) as a State minister.
The other order was that the current university council headed by Chancellor Joseph Sukwianomb and the UOG administration under Vice-Chancellor Musawe Sinebare continue to perform their duties and responsibilities to allow for the university’s academic programme to continue without being jeopardised.
The Chief Justice handed down these orders following an application by the university council to stay the gazettal notices issued by the Minister Raminai, who had appointed an interim university council and an acting Vice-Chancellor in Dr Teng Waninga replacing Professor Sinabare.
Every citizens are born to respect and obey the law of the land. No one has the right to abuse and violate the law under any circumstances. Not even the Government. Such cases like this shows how the government wants to play dictatorship within democracy, and also how weak the law interpreters and enforcers are.
Papua New Guinea and its citizens want what is right and what is good, not for the good of individuals or minority but for the public and the majority.
