THE writ of the Port Moresby by-election has been returned to the Governor General at 10:30am on Friday morning after a successful completion.
The acting Electoral Commissioner, Simon Sinai formally presented the writ to His Excellency Sir Bob Dadae at the Government House in Port Moresby on June 25.
The writ was supposed to be formally returned on June24, however, due to the delays in the counting and the elimination process of the by-election has pushed for the return of writ to be formally brought in before the Governor General on Friday.
Commissioner Sinai upon handing over the writ explained that due to the lateness and delay in the process, the Commission had to arrange with the Governor General for Friday for the writ to be returned.
Mr Sinai also congratulated the newly elected Member of Parliament (MP) for the Port Moresby North- West electorate, Lohia Boe Samuel for his election victory.
Lohia Boe Samuel or formally known by his supporters as “LBS” has won the Port Moresby North-West by-election with a total vote of 25,185.
Lohia will now join the leading Pangu Pati team under the leadership of Prime Minister James Marape to serve the people of Port Moresby North-West for the remaining eight months before the 2022 National General Election.
Mr Sinai also said that the by-election for the Port Moresby North-West will be the last by-election conducted by the Electoral Commission.
Meanwhile, Commissioner Sinai said that the by- election for the Kerema Open electorate is unlikely to happen given the time they need in preparation for the 2022 National General Election.
