PNG Kapuls resume preparation for World Cup qualifiers

THE PNG National Football team, Kapuls is currently under preparation for the 2022 Qatar FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

PNG Kapuls will use the two weeks recession period of NSL competition to roll out their training programs.

This will see the PNG men’s football team coming together for the first time after Covid-19 pandemic to have a rundown training session in Port Moresby. The team from Lae camp will take on team from Port Moresby camp to allow players to vie for a sport in the Final Kapuls Team. The final national team (Kapuls) will then prepare for the 2022 Quarter World Cup Oceania Football Confederation (OFC). The World Cup qualifiers are set to begin in the month of January to February 2022.

Both teams from Southern camp and Northern camp will take on each other tomorrow (Saturday, September 11, 2021) in Port Moresby PNG Football stadium.

It is the clash of the top footballers in the country organized by PNGFA technical department that the followers would love to watch and the tickets will be selling at K5 and K10 respectably. The match will also be live streamed at 3pm on EMTV.

The train on camp will end after the match day and the announcement of the final Kapuls train-on squad will be finalized and later announced.

Moreover, players from Northern conference camp flew into Port Moresby on Thursday prior to the much anticipated match day.

Head of PNGFA Technical Department Paul Isorua said the training programs including the match are purposely to help with finalizing selections for the PNG Kapuls national team in preparation to participate in the 2022 Qatar World Cup OFC.

Isorua stated that all the players attending the training program have good rates of fitness levels as a result of actively participating in the current 2021 NSL competition. 

“This is a big advantage towards the team’s training preparation programs as player match fitness is a key factor and I wish to thank the competitions department for having a break in the competition to allow for our national team training program to be progressed,” he said.

The PNG Kapuls possible train-on team will be finalized and named soon after this weeklong training program.  Nevertheless, options are open for player omission and inclusion depending on progressive on field player performances and off the field player conduct which are amongst key elements required in the selection criteria.

The training program is undertaken by coaches Bob Morris, Samson Steven, Erickson Komeng, Nathan Vincent, and Godfrey Baniau with support from PNGFA Technical officers Harrison Kamake and Margaret Aka.  The team is managed by General Team Manager Gordon Manub.

The window transfers of the NSL franchise club players were opened since Saturday, September 5, 2021 and will close on September 15, 2021.
