REMOTE AREAS RECEIVE MOSQUITO NETS

By MICHELLE AUAMOROMORO

WHILE the nation had been busy with the elections, the Rotarians against Malaria, in partnership with the Department of Health had been distributing mosquito nets to all rural areas in Northern Province.

The team from the Rotarians against Malaria organization had been in the province since early this month to carry out their routine of distributing the nets every three years.

“The nets have lifespan of about five years but we do the distribution after every three years, before they expire; that is the concept that we are using,” said the team leader, Oa Marai.

“We brought 12 containers of mosquito nets with a total of 14, 400 nets, which is almost half the population in the province,” he said.

The team reached out to the villages along the coast using dinghies and planes to get the mosquito nets to the villages in the mountains.

“The plane takes the nets to the nearest airstrip and then we track up to each village in the area to do the distribution,” said Marai.

About 165 bales of mosquito nets were flown out from Popondetta to Safia, Itokama, Emo and Kira on Tuesday.

The mosquito nets were funded by the Rotarians for Malaria.
