Official calls for more enrolment of girls

By ENNIO KUBLE

THE new all-girls school in Simbu is requiring more girls to enrol into Grade 9, says Catholic Education Secretary (CES) Leo Wau.

Mr Wau the CES for Kundiawa Diocese told 54 Grade 8 students, of which 36 are girls, with their parents in St Anne’s Dirima Primary School last Thursday in a gathering that the Grade 8 girls should be the base enrolment to the  Mary Immaculate Girls Technical Secondary School (MIGTSS), which is next door.

MIGTSS is the only girls’ technical secondary school in Simbu and the Highlands. Both the primary with MIGTSS are Catholic Church run schools including another 43 elementary, primary and secondary schools in the province.

The total enrolment space available for 2023 intake at MIGTSS is 120.

Mr Wau encouraged the parents to make requests to the Simbu education selection committee to give preference to Dirima Primary School girls to enrol at MIGTSS for those of the girls who pass the Grade 9 enrolment eligibility marks in their Grade 8 examination this year.

He said MIGTSS is a government accredited school with qualified teachers and new amenities to adequately cater for the learning comfort of the students.

A month ago MIGTSS, which is located about 33km to the south of Kundiawa town in Gumine, commissioned its brand new infrastructure buildings funded by Incentive Fund that were worth over K7 million.

The second Grade 12 graduation for MIGTSS is scheduled to 23rd of November.
