A vocational manager in the remote district between Gulf and Morobe Province wants the Education Department to decentralise education functions back to the LLG’S or districts.
Hans Yansom said this will allow public servants to do follow ups in the district rather than coming to Port Moresby.
“Sometimes the provincial headquarters are unreliable and the only option is for us to travel to Port Moresby. This is also not good as it affects our classes and the students,” Yansom said.
He also outlined another problem which is transport. He said the only way out from the area where he is teaching is only through air.
He urged the government to also improve airstrips in the rural areas.
“Also, it is very costly for us to transport school materials and if the plane does not land than it affects our school operation,” Yansom added.
