A day clinic serving 13 remote wards in East New Britain has received a lifeline from Bank South Pacific, which donated two 500-litre water tanks and four 500-watt solar lights to tackle chronic water shortages and unreliable electricity.

For the Livuan Day Clinic in the Gazelle District’s Livuan Local Level Government area, the lack of running water has forced staff to rely entirely on rainfall, while intermittent power supplies have made even basic chores and security a daily struggle.

The donation, made under BSP’s annual Corporate Social Responsibility initiative, was presented by NGI Regional Manager Kalat Tiriman and Rabaul Branch Manager David Pilai.

“Today, we are donating the water tanks and solar lights here at Livuan Day Clinic,” Pilai said. “This project and other support show BSP’s commitment, ensuring that our customers and stakeholders are looked after.”

But he also appealed to the community: “If it is looked after, in the long run it will be beneficial further to others in the years to come.”

Representing the East New Britain Provincial Health Authority, Health Promotion Manager Xavier Hombhanje called the moment meaningful. “Livuan Day Clinic plays an important role as healthcare provider to this community,” he said. “To be recognised by BSP for its service is remarkable. BSP has shown it is a caring partner in community development.”
