PREPARATIONS are well underway to open a new Bank South Pacific (BSP) branch in Namatanai town towards the end of this month.

Namatanai MP and Forests Minister, Walter Schnaubelt revealed this recently saying the need for a BSP branch to be established is crucial for the growing economy of the electorate.

“It would be a new branch just like the Kavieng one. We will have a fully-fledged bank so we don’t need to go to Kavieng to cash cheques or do banking there.

“There are a lot of economic activities happening in the electorate and it is proper to have a bank that is closer to the people to serve their needs,” Minister Schnaubelt said.

He would be inviting senior executives of BSP, Treasurer Ian Ling-Stuckey and several senior ministers to witness the official opening of the new BSP branch.

Currently, BSP has a sub-branch in Namatanai which serves the entire electorate.

BSP’s Chief Executive Officer Robin Fleming recently said BSP received frequent requests for new branches and sub-branches and had already committed to a new branch at Eriku (Lae), a larger sub-branch at Namatanai (New Ireland) and had been actively looking for a new site for a branch in Mt Hagen.
