INSTITUTE of Business Studies University (IBSU) had its first pioneer graduation yesterday since the institute got its recognition as a university in January 25, 2017.

A total of 180 students graduated with diploma and degrees in business studies.

It was all applause and excitement at the event – a historical one for the lecturers and staff to see the pioneer graduates of the IBSU.

The event was officially opened by IBSU chancellor and former ambassador Gabriel Pepson in the presence of Minister for Higher Education Research Science and Technology and Sports Wesley Raminai.

Pepson had the pleasure to open the IBSU first ever graduation.

“It is truly a momentous occasion as we witness today the graduation of the first graduates from the IBSU. To the graduating students, I would like to say that you will go down in the history of this university as the pioneers of IBSU and that you must be proud of.

“We the university council are also proud of your success and we congratulate you. I take this opportunity to also acknowledge the tireless efforts of Sir Mick Nades who first had the dream to develop IBS into a University,” said Pepson.

He further acknowledge the partners and the staff of IBSU for making the historical event happen and IBSU will now stand to help the need of this country to educate its citizens.

Also Minister Raminai who attended the graduation said the event marks an important date in IBSU, a university that will contribute in human resources development.

“IBSU is truly embracing certain common shared visions of the government which is to make higher education accessible for all PNG.

“I understand there are certain problems encountered by students in the accessing of student loan facility. I am working on this and will make it more accessible for all,” said Raminai.

He said he will make policy announcement of the improve HELP program in the coming months and will make sure all higher institutions including IBSU benefit from it.

“There is enough for everyone in this country that must be known.”

IBSU will now be contributing along with the other Universities in PNG to develop, educate and train skillful labor force in the business profession.
