PAPUA New Guinea has strengthened its healthcare partnership with China following the arrival of the Chinese hospital ship Silk Road Ark at the main wharf in Port Moresby.
Health Minister Elias Kapavore said the visit marks another milestone in the long-standing relationship between the two countries, highlighting both medical support and growing cooperation.

The ship will provide free medical services to the public from April 8 to 15, 2026, offering advanced diagnostics and specialist treatment in collaboration with local doctors and nurses, including those at Port Moresby General Hospital.
Public opening hours at the main wharf are:
Thursday, April 9: 9:30am–11:30am and 1:30pm–5:00pm
Friday, April 10: 9:30am–11:30am and 1:30pm–5:00pm
Saturday, April 11: 8:30am–11:30am and 1:30pm–5:00pm
Sunday, April 12: 8:30am–11:30am and 1:30pm–5:00pm
Monday, April 13: 8:30am–11:30am
Minister Kapavore said the mission build on a long-running agreement that had supported the deployment of Chinese medical teams, training for local health workers, and the supply of modern equipment.
He added that the partnership has improved skills, strengthened hospital capacity, and helped PNG better manage complex health cases.
The minister also acknowledged China’s support in developing medical infrastructure in the country.
He said the visit not only delivers immediate healthcare services but also helps build a stronger and more capable health system for the future, while reinforcing ties between the two nations.
