All outstanding official corruption cases since 2018 will be reinvestigated to ensure they are with the correct justice that warrants the outcome of the investigation.
Crimes Assistant Commissioner Hodge Ette has revealed this on Thursday
Ette sadi, currently the National Fraud and Anti-Corruption Directorate (NFACD) is doing an audit of all outstanding official corruption, misappropriation, fraud investigation dating back last five years.
“ Outgoing NFAD Director Chief Inspector Jacob Ivaroa was tasked to do an audit for three months. He was tasked by the Police Commissioner David Manning to identify all the cases been reported to the NFAD and identify which NFAD Detective r was working on a case. That Detective will report on the status of the case to see if that case has been completed, or if the case has been struck out or dismissed or if the investigation has been on halt and for what reasons it has been halted. And if the case has been dismissed or struck out at the Committal Court or halted, we will find out what are other avenues to take up the case back at the District court, or through the Ex officio indictment for trial at the National Court through the Office of the Public Prosecutor and so on. We want to make sure all the outstanding cases are properly been dealt with the correct justice that warrants the outcome of the investigations”.
Mr Ette also said that the audit will also assess NFACD Detectives performance, how many arrest they have made , how many conviction rate at the National Court that their investigation had achieved , how many dismissal or struck out rates at the District Court have their investigation achieved, and why their investigation got halted then why did it got halted. The audit will determine how many investigation a Detective is working on , like if the Detective is working on 50 cases that is impossible “ .
Mr Ette said that Mr Ivaroa’s three months has lapsed and is now been replaced by Chief Inspector Robert Wolo who is continuing with the audit. “The audit will also to determine the performance of a NFACD Detective to whether remain at the NFACD or transfer out”.
Mr Ette said that once that audit has been done, he will review it and make a submission to the Police Commissioner for his final decision.
