ALOTAU MP and Chairman of the Special Parliamentary Committee on Gender Based Violence (GBV), Charles Abel has strongly condemned the manner in which Mt Hagen District Court dismissed the case involving the alleged murder of late Imelda Tupi.

“This is outrageous, unbelievable and unacceptable. It defies belief that our court system in this day and age can make such decisions in the light of such overwhelming circumstantial evidence.

“It makes a mockery of the term justice and our justice system. How can we change mindsets and the culture of violence in general and violence against women if we allow such acts to go unpunished?” Abel posted on his Alotau District Facebook page.

The National newspaper reports Mt Hagen District Court Magistrate Leonard Mesmin struck out the willful murder charges against Dr Simon Temo, 40, Ken Paul, 27, and Nombre Kasu, 42.

He said the witnesses had failed to provide the evidence and facts of the killing during the committal hearing.
