THE Gordon Police Station was reopened today after the station underwent a major structural refurbishment that started last year which aims at enhancing police performance in the National Capital District (NCD).

Members of the Constabulary serving at Gordon Police Station will move into the refurbished station starting tomorrow and the station should be functioning during the weekend and onwards.

Speaking on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Deputy Commissioner Donald Yamasombi extended his gratitude to the government for supporting the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary (RPNGC) through the Special Police Assistance Program (SPAP) for the upgraded infrastructure.

“The government continues to actively support the RPNGC by: funding the construction of the new infrastructure, maintaining and upgrading existing police stations and barracks accommodation around the country and investing in the tools our police officers to do their duties,” Mr. Yamasombi said.

Senior Constable and Officer in Charge of Community Policing of Gordons Police Station, Tony Hasu said that the police officers are focusing on training and upskilling to address the lawlessness for the Gordons community.

Mr. Yamasombi elaborated that the government’s support through the SPAP have invested in the Gordon Police Station as it serves the majority of the city’s committers and shoppers.

“The station we open today adds to a long list of significant infrastructure investment to improve community access to policing services,” Mr. Yamasombi said.

Mr. Yamasombi urged the officers presented to serve with professionalism, diligence and pride and their executives will continue to invest in their welfare, working conditions and living conditions.

“To the police officers who will work here, take responsibility in maintaining the cleanliness, safety and security of the station, ensuring it remains a welcoming and efficient environment for both the officers and public,” he said.

Mr. Yamasombi told the Gordons community that the officers working in Gordon Police Station will work with professionalism and pride and without fear and favor.

The RPNGC executive management with government support will continue to rehabilitate police infrastructure nationwide and increase manpower to meet the needs of the people.
