NEW IRELAND Governor, Hon. Byron Chan, has congratulated People’s Progress Party (PPP) Leader and Member for Kiriwina-Goodenough, Hon. Douglas Tomuriesa, on his appointment as the new Minister for Civil Aviation.
Tomuriesa was officially sworn in on Tuesday at Government House, marking another significant milestone in his parliamentary career and the continued contribution of the People’s Progress Party to national leadership.
Governor Chan said Tomuriesa’s appointment reflects the confidence placed in his experience and leadership and expressed every confidence that he would serve the country with distinction.
“On behalf of the people of New Ireland and the People’s Progress Party family, I extend my warmest congratulations to my colleague and friend, Hon. Douglas Tomuriesa, on his appointment as Minister for Civil Aviation.
“Douglas has served the country with commitment over many years, and I have no doubt he will bring that same level of dedication and professionalism to this important portfolio,” the Governor said.
Governor Chan also acknowledged the enduring contribution of PPP to national development, saying the appointment of a senior party member to Cabinet reflects its longstanding commitment to serving the country.
Founded under the leadership of the late Grand Chief Sir Julius Chan, the People’s Progress Party has played a significant role in shaping the nation’s political and economic development over several decades.
Governor Chan said the appointment of Minister Tomuriesa continues that tradition of experienced leadership and public service.
“The People’s Progress Party has always been about responsible leadership, national development and putting the interests of our people first. Douglas Tomuriesa’s appointment is another example of the confidence placed in our party’s ability to contribute to the country’s progress.”
The Governor also paid tribute to the legacy of the late Grand Chief Sir Julius Chan, whose leadership established the People’s Progress Party as one of PNG’s enduring political movements.
He wished Minister Tomuriesa every success in his new role and reaffirmed New Ireland’s commitment to working closely with the National Government on initiatives that strengthen aviation services and infrastructure throughout Papua New Guinea.
