FOR celebrating the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations between China & PNG, and to further enhance the cooperation in the Medical & Humanitarian Assistance field, the Chinese hospital ship Silk Road Ark will pay a goodwill visit to Port Moresby and offer free medical treatment to local citizens from 8th to 15th April 2026.
The Silk Road embodies the beautiful vision of building a community with a shared future for humanity, the ark symbolizes the lofty mission of safeguarding life and defending peace. Today, on the ancient maritime Silk Road route, there sails a boat of life, friendship and peace – the “Silk Road Ark”. She carries forward the Red Cross spirit of “humanity, fraternity and dedication” to people around the world, extends a hand of friendship to the world with its navigation trails, upholds international responsibilities, demonstrates China’s morality and shows great power responsibility.
Silk Road Ark was commissioned in April 2024 with the hull number 867. She measures 178 meters in length, 24 meters in width, and 35.5 meters in height, featuring 8 decks in total, with a full load displacement of 14,450 tons.
She is equipped with complete medical facilities and equipment. She has 2 triage areas, 2 rescue areas, 1 surgical area with 8 operating rooms, and 300 hospital beds. It is furnished with various examination and testing rooms such as a CT room, a DR room, a laboratory for urine, blood routine, biochemistry, a pathology room, a special examination room for B-ultrasound, electrocardiogram, electroencephalogram, gastroscopy, colonoscopy, a dental treatment room with 2 comprehensive dental treatment units, and an ophthalmology, otolaryngology treatment room.
In addition, she is equipped with medical auxiliary support facilities including disinfection supply, drug supply, blood support, oxygen generation, negative pressure suction, compressed air, medical information system, and medical equipment maintenance. She has a strong medical team including 60 doctors, 32 nurses and other auxiliary staffs. She has set up outpatient departments of internal medicine, surgery, dentistry, pediatrics, ophthalmology, gynecology, traditional Chinese medicine, etc., capable of providing medical rescue for the wounded and sick, regular medical services, and prevention and control of maritime infectious diseases.

Attention:
- Before boarding for medical treatment, patients should bring personal identification documents or fill out an identity information card containing their name, gender, age, etc.
- Patients with a body temperature greater than 99.5℉ (37.5℃), signs of infectious diseases, critical conditions, or advanced age without family accompaniment will generally not be allowed to board for medical treatment.
- Patients are not allowed to board the ship while intoxicated, carrying weapons, or carrying, chewing betel nuts for medical treatment.
- Triage will stop half an hour before the end of the treatment period: 11:00 AM and 4:30 PM.
