MEMBER for Samarai Murua and Minister for Tourism, Art and Culture, Isi Henry Leonard continues to support the women folk in his district.
He wants women to be equal partners in development in Local Level Government (LLG), district, province and nation building.
Minister Leonard said women were influential starting from their homes to the communities they were living, and the different sectors they were involved.
During his two terms as MP, he has made it his priority to support the women in his district in programmes they were carrying out in respective LLGs.
Last weekend, he attended a closing ceremony of a weeklong Annual General Meeting (AGM) of Louisiade Women’s Association in Bwgaoia Station upon invitation.
At the AGM Minister Leonard through the Samarai Murua District Development Authority (SMDDA) presented a double cab Toyota Landcruiser to the Association to assist them with their work.
President of the Association Ms Elizabeth Donald thanked the Member and the SMDDA for their continuous support towards the Women’s Association.
Minister Leonard also presented a single cab Toyota Landcruiser to Iona Lalawai from Zola and Sons Cocoa Farmer and Growers that will help load cocoa from farmers on the island.
He also presented an Isuzu Six-wheel Truck to Kaubwaga TVET Institute, and eight 23 foot/40 horse power dinghies and Yamaha motors to the following recipients: Ivan Namedi, Eliyam Fishing Group (Ware Island, Bwanabwana LLG); Morgan Romulars, Happy Guest House, (Tewatewan Island Bwanabwana LLG); Bwaniewa Yowau Transport (Ewena Ward, Louisiade LLG); Esther Tigolo of Towase Family (West Siagara, Louisiade LLG); United Church Misima South circuit (Lousiade LLG); Israel Eliuda (West Liak, Lousiade LLG); Noel Takopa (Sudest Island, Yeleamba LLG); and NJaru Ladies Transport (Rossell Island, Yeleamba LLG).
Late last year in November, Minister Leonard also presented a generator for the Misima Guest House, a business arm of the Louisiade Women’s Association.
The generator has since sustained the Guest House in its operations.
Leonard said his DDA will continue to support associations, groups and individuals who were helping to develop and improve the lives of the people in their respective communities in the district.
He added that they would also assist those that were aligning with the plans and programs through the SMDDA and District Administration.
He urged all recipients of the vehicles, dinghies and motors to continue serving the people and make a difference with the support given by the government.
