Life Insurance Corporation Limited (LICL) paid K55,000 to family members of a deceased PNG Correctional Services (PNGCS), Timothy Wa’au, today.
The payment is the result of an agreement signed between PNGCS and LICL in 2024 to provide life and medical insurance to Correctional Services members.
CS Acting Commissioner Bernard Nepo highlighted the terms and conditions of the contract.
“This year gives us (CS workers) an opportunity for the benefit all the staff members through out the country,” said Commissioner Nepo.
“I, as the commissioner am concerned about the welfare of my officers and hope that (insurance) covers death as well as medical cover.”
President for CS Employee Association (CSEA), Daniel Mollen, commended Mr Nepo for getting funds and make the life insurance available to its employees across the country.
“CS officers are operating in high risk sectors whereby the settings in the prison is confined where they are exposed to all sorts of diseases,” he said.
Mr Mollen said that given the risks that CS officers faced, it was good to have a plan where they could seek quality healthcare.
PNGCS had the contract agreement with LICL for the last two decades, but due to lack of payment of premiums it was not effective until CS signed a memorandum of agreement with LICL to provide its member with a comprehensive family insurance.
