YOUTHS in Central can have access to programs that can sustain them through the establshments of youth councils in the province.
This is an initiative of the madam Governor Rufina Peter to restructure youth leadership and representation at all levels from the ward, Local Level Government (LLG), district and at the provincial level to sustain youth development across the province.
The Community Development division of the Central Province administration was heavily involved in this program partnering with the National Youth Development Authority to roll out the program last month.
Under the leadership of Community Development Advisor, Michael Peter and dedicated community development officer from the five districts, youth council executives were elected and established in all 16 LLGs across the entire province.
Mr Peter said now that all the LLGs in the province had youth councils in place, the focus now is to establish district youth council next month in September.
He said the office is preparing with rolling out the program with tentative dates scheduled for Abau on 02, September 2026, Rigo on 03, September, 2026, Hiri Koiari on 04, September, 2026, Kairuku on 07, September, 2026 and Goilala on 09, September, 2026.
He said the final phase will be to elect provincial youth council with tentative dates set from 21-24, September, 2026.
Mr Peter said that the roll out by the Community Development division under his leadership and the National Youth Development Authority ensures youths have representation from the ward, LLG district and provincial level.
He said the LLG youth council executives are now mandated to mobilse youths run programs, and select candidates for the district youth councils next year.
