THE Government of Papua New Guinea has congratulated Missionary Aviation Fellowship (MAF) on its 75th anniversary, recognising the organisation’s longstanding contribution to connecting and supporting remote communities across the country.

Minister for Civil Aviation Wake Goi, in a press statement marking the milestone celebrated on May 7, praised MAF for its dedication and service over the past seven decades.

“ I join the people of Papua New Guinea in celebrating a remarkable milestone-the 75th Anniversary of Missionary Aviation Fellowship and its enduring service to our nation,” Mr Goi said.

He described MAF as a vital lifeline for many rural communities in a country challenged by rugged terrain and limited road infrastructure.

“For seventy-five years, MAF has consistently bridged the gap, bringing hope, connection, and opportunity where it is needed most,” he said.

The Minister thanked MAF for its role in transporting medical supplies, assisting sick and vulnerable people, supporting education services, and delivering essential goods to isolated areas.

He said the organisation had also played an important role in helping rural farmers and small businesses access markets, contributing to local economic growth and empowering communities to participate meaningfully in national development.

“This is not merely aviation-it is nation-building at its most practical and compassionate level,” Mr Goi said.

The Minister also acknowledged MAF as a strategic partner in supporting the work of the Rural Airstrips Agency (RAA), particularly in maintaining and expanding rural airstrip infrastructure throughout the country.

“Your continued operations complement government efforts to ensure that no community is left behind,” he said.

Mr Goi further recognised MAF’s contribution to the spiritual life of Papua New Guinea through its support for churches and Christian missions.

“MAF has played a vital role in advancing God’s Great Commission, enabling the Gospel to reach even the most remote corners of Papua New Guinea,” he said.

As the organisation marks its 75th anniversary, Mr Goi encouraged MAF to continue its mission with renewed strength and vision.

“The Government of Papua New Guinea remains committed to working alongside MAF to enhance aviation services and expand access to our rural population,” he said.

He added that he hoped the next 75 years of MAF’s service would continue to strengthen connections and contribute to a more inclusive and prosperous Papua New Guinea.
