PRIME Minister James Marape has announced that Kumul Agriculture Limited will now be placed under the Ministry of Agriculture, with Minister John Boito taking responsibility for the state-owned company.

Speaking today, Prime Minister Marape said Kumul Agriculture Limited had considerable potential but had remained largely inactive.

“Kumul Agriculture Limited, a small company with big potential, has just been around doing nothing,” Mr Marape said.

He said the Government had decided to transfer the company to the Ministry of Agriculture so it could become the commercial investment arm of the agriculture sector.

“We picked it up and passed it on to the Minister for Agriculture to drive agricultural investments,” he said.

Mr Marape said the company would support the Government’s efforts to attract investment into agriculture and strengthen commercial participation across the sector.

Minister John Boito will now oversee Kumul Agriculture Limited and is expected to lead its transformation into a vehicle for agricultural investment and business development.

The move is part of the Government’s broader push to revitalise Papua New Guinea’s agriculture sector, increase production, attract private investment, and create more opportunities for farmers and agribusinesses nationwide.
