Migration boss denies allegation

CHIEF Migration Officer Stanis Hulahau denies any knowledge of allegation of human rights abuse and continuous harassment of foreigners in the country by his enforcement officers.

“This means the Command and control in PNG Immigration has not collapsed but remains intact,” says Mr. Hulahau.

The Migration boss said this after this newspaper contacted his office after receiving allegations of Immigration and Citizenship (ICA) officers’ continuous harassment on foreigners in a particular location in Port Moresby for over 10 times in a space of one month.

He explained that if anyone feels his officers or any police officers attached or engaged with ICA have gone rogue, then the right place would be for the informants to file complains with police and his office to deal with.

“However, I must remind the citizens of Papua New Guinea that the command and control in PNG Immigration has not collapsed and the interest of the country remains paramount.

I am aware of the operations that is currently on foot which started only last week, within the National Capital District (NCD) for work permits and visa verification which the enforcement and work permit teams are currently conducting,” Mr Hulahau said.

The ICA boss said there has not been any spot checks since the 2022 National General Elections.

He said the team have just gone out last week to do physical location checks on visa and work permit applications and they have uncovered alarming discrepancies in physical address of companies as opposed to the addresses provided to PNG Immigration on their visa and work permit applications.

“I am interested to know what intimidation and from which company and persons, if there are any video footages of intimidation by Immigration officials or police attached with ICA involved in these operations, I want to know and deal with them,” Mr Hulahau said.

Mr Hulahau reiterated that informants must feel free to work with his office and provide any information on his officers if they step out of line so he can deal with them appropriately.
