The Member for Nipa Kutubu, Dr Billy Joseph, has officially welcomed the arrival of 10 new police constables to Nipa Police Station, describing the deployment as a critical step in strengthening law and order in the district.

Dr Joseph said the placement of the new recruits forms part of a broader and coordinated strategy to improve policing capacity, restore public confidence, and ensure a safer environment for all residents.

“We welcome the ten new police constables to Nipa Police Station. This is part of a comprehensive strategy we are implementing in partnership with the law and justice sector, including the police,” he said.

He emphasized that improving law and order will be supported by critical investments in infrastructure, particularly housing for public servants.

“We want to build public service housing for our police and other government workers. This will be done in partnership with the National Housing Corporation and the government,” he stated.

Nipa Police station is under construction, with full design approved and in line with Police Department’s guidelines.

Dr Joseph also acknowledged and thanked the Southern Highlands Provincial Government under the leadership of William Powi for its continued support and commitment to development in the district.

“I thank the Southern Highlands Provincial Government, under the leadership of Governor William Powi, for awarding the contract to Kemele Constructions to build the Court House and Magistrate Houses in Nipa”.

This is a very important step in supporting our police and other essential workers,” he said.

He further extended his appreciation to the Provincial Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Mas Tuman, for his leadership and foresight in ensuring the deployment of police personnel to Nipa Kutubu.

This demonstrates strong leadership and commitment to improving law and order in our province,” he added.

Dr Joseph noted that proper housing and logistical support remain key factors in attracting and retaining public servants, particularly members of the disciplined forces.

“When we provide decent accommodation and proper support, we are not only assisting our officers but also improving service delivery and stability in our communities,” he said.

He further announced that key infrastructure projects, including the 3 Story Nipa Kutubu DDA Haus, the Police station, police housing and a new courthouse, are expected to commence without delay.

“We will be engaging contractors for the construction of main street housing and the courthouse. These projects have taken some time, but they must start immediately,” he said.

Preparations are also underway to equip the incoming officers with the necessary resources.

“We have already ordered firearms, uniforms and other police logistics.

And to compliment the work of the new recruits; 50 new reserve police will be recruited and trained in the coming weeks; and then the next 50 will commence training.” I he added.

The Nipa Kutubu MP issued a strong call to surrounding communities to respect the township and maintain peace.

“We urge people living in surrounding areas to address their issues within their own communities and leave the town free from disturbances. Public servants, including doctors and contractors, must be able to work safely,” he stressed.

He warned that law enforcement will be strengthened with the increase in manpower.

“Anyone found breaking the law will face the consequences. With the increase in police manpower, we expect improved enforcement and more arrests where necessary,” he said.

Dr Joseph concluded by calling for unity, mutual respect, and cooperation between the community and authorities.

“We must respect the law, respect each other, and work together through our law and justice systems to bring lasting peace and order to Nipa Kutubu,” he said.
